CS Sfaxien and Al Hilal Omdurman have advanced to the second qualifying round of the 2023 King Salman Club Cup.
The Tunisian side CS Sfaxien ejected Qatar SC on an away goal’s rule after the two teams settled for a goalless draw in the first leg and a 1-1 in the return leg played on Tuesday at the Suheim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
Mohamod Kante Kefing gave the Tunisian giants the lead after 41 minutes, but Argentine forward Javier Matias Pastore leveled for Qatar SC.
Sudan Premier League reigning champions Al Hilal Omdurman also advanced to the next stage on a 4-2 goal aggregate against Bahrain’s Manama FC.
Al Hilal Omdurman won the first leg 3-0, but suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manama FC in the return leg played on Monday at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium.
The two Africans sides CS Sfaxien and Al Hilal Omdurman will now face off in second qualifying round of the 2023 King Salman Club Cup.
Al Merriekh from Sudan on Tuesday suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Tishreen FC. The Syrian Premier League side qualified on an away goals’ rule after the first leg had ended 2-1 in Khartoum, Sudan.
Libya’s Al-Ahli Tripoli are the other team from Africa that qualified for the second qualifying round and they will face Al-Nahda from Oman.
The other highly ranked African teams that are waiting the group stage include; Zamalek (Egypt), Raja Casablanca, Wydad AC (Morocco), Esperance de Tunis (Tunisia) and Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.
The King Salman’s Club Cup with a total cash prize of US$10 million is organized by The Union of Arab Football Association.
