Regional body CECAFA elects new President Andemariam

DJIBOUTI, Djibouti – Eritrea’s Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam has been elected as the new President of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).

Andemariam was elected un-opposed during the CECAFA Elective General Assembly held at the Djibouti Palace Kempinski on February 7th, 2026.

“I declare Weldehaimanot Andemariam the new President of CECAFA,” announced Jean Sseninde, the CECAFA Interim Executive Director. The new President said he is ready to serve CECAFA with a lot of accountability.

He was elected un-opposed after President of the Uganda FA, Moses Hassim Magogo and President of the Burundi FA, Alexandre Muyenge stepped down before the elections. Andemariam, also President of the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF) has previously been the Vice President of CECAFA.

President of the Somali Football Federation (SFF), Ali Abdi Mohamed was also un-opposed for the position of Vice President. The two Committee members include; Francis Amin Michael and Shema Ngoga Fabrice, Presidents of the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) and Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) respectively.

The Assembly was attended by several stakeholders including guests from FIFA, CAF and sponsors. Fezal Ismael Sidat, the 5th Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) speaking on behalf of the President Dr. Patrice Motsepe congratulated the new leadership of CECAFA and asked them to continue working hard to improve Football in the Zone.
