DJIBOUTI, Djibouti – Football stakeholders have commended Djibouti for the successful hosting of the CECAFA Elective General Assembly on February 7th, 2026.
The well organized Assembly that took place at the Djibouti Palace Kempinski attracted several stakeholders including FIFA, CAF, Member Association representatives and sponsors.
Eritrea’s Paulos Weldehaimanot Andermariam was voted new President of CECAFA to lead the body for another four years.
The Assembly was organized by CECAFA in partnership with the Djibouti Football Federation (FDF) under the leadership of Hassan Suleiman Waberi, and the government of Djibouti.
Edgar Watson Ssubi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda FA praised Djibouti for the well organized event. “The hall was big and well decorated. They have set the bar high,” added Ssubi.
Sawmuel Fils Eto, the Cameroon Football President thanked Djibouti for hosting the CECAFA Assembly. “This was a very successful Assembly and I thank CECAFA and my brother Waberi for making sure the event was successful,” added Eto.
The 5th Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), also President of the Mozambique FA, Sidat Fezal Ismael also applauded the Djibouti FA for hosting a successful event and CECAFA for preparing well and making sure new office bearers are elected.
Nicholas Musonye, the former CECAFA General Secretary was also full of praise for the Djibouti government and Football body for accepting to host the Assembly. “It was well organized and the hosts Djibouti and CECAFA secretariat did a good job,” added Musonye.
It was the first time that Djibouti hosted a CECAFA Assembly. Last year the Assembly took place in Juba, South Sudan, while in 2024 the Assembly was hosted in Mombasa, Kenya.
