NAIROBI, May 13. – The government of Somalia and the Somali Football Federation (SFF) has announced that three Africans legends will feature in a friendly match in Mogadishu on May 27th.
The three who featured for top teams in Europe and have won African Player of the Year Awards, Jay-Jay Okocha, Emmanuel Adebayor and Samuel Eto’o will feature in the friendly match which will also involve Members of Parliament, Government Ministers and former Somali Internationals. Et’o is also the current President of the Cameroon Football body and a Member of the CAF Executive.
Ali Abdi Mohamed, President of the Somali Football Federation (SFF) has made it clear that the visit and friendly match will show the world that the country is not any more a no-go area.
“The visit of the trio under the theme of “The legendary Peace Tour” will mark a major milestone in our recent history and will hopefully break the barriers and show the outside world that Somalia has achieved new heights” Somali minister for Youth and Sports, Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali.
The Minister made it clear that his Ministry and SFF are jointly working together to ensure the visit is a success. The welcome festival is expected to take place at Eng. Yarisow Stadium in Mogadishu on May 27th, and after the legends will tour the SFF headquarters.
The SFF President says the Somali Prime minister, Hamza Abdi Barre will kick the first ball of the history friendly match. The Legends will also visit the presidential palace where they will meet the President, Dr. Hassan Sheik Mohamud.
