JOHANNESBURG, July 1. – Kenyan International Brian Onyango is one of the players who has been released by South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Harambee Stars defender who joined the South Africa team in October 2020 had his contract run out on June 30th, 2024, and Mamelodi Sundowns opted not to renew it.
Onyango who previously played for Maritzburg United as well in South Africa won several titles under coach Rulani Mokwena at Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 29-year old defender made a total 61 appearances in all competitions across the domestic league as well as the CAF inter-clubs and was even recalled to the national team last year after a lengthy absence on the international stage.
The other players who have been released by Mamelodi Sundowns include; Bongani Zungu, Gaston Sirino and Thabiso Kutumela.
Mamelodi Sundowns are also South Africa’s most successful Club in the Premier League having lifted a record 14 South African League titles and the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League title in 2015.
