KAMPALA, Uganda, Sept 23 – Myanmar’s top badminton player Hein Htut has entered the Kampala International Badminton Open 2026.
Htut, ranked 119 in the men’s singles, is among the top players who have registered for the Future Series tournament slated for September 24-27th at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium, Kampala.
“We are delighted that the tournament sanctioned by the World Badminton body has attracted several highly ranked players from around the world. It will give our local players exposure against top players,” Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive Officer of Badminton Uganda told Talksportsafrica.
Luxembourg’s Jerome Pauquet who is ranked 186 in the world, together with Iran’s Ali Hajati have also entered the US$5000 prize money tournament.
Africa and Uganda’s top female player Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi who will be the top seed in the women’s singles category told Talksportsafrica that she will be all out to try and perform well to be able to improve on her world ranking.
“I know it will be very tough especially because we have players from outside Uganda, but I have prepared well and I am confident of performing well,” added Rafi who was among the few African players who participated in the World Badminton Championship last month in New Delhi, India.
Players who will feature in the Championship will come from; Uganda, India, Iran, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kenya, Malaysia, Algeria, Myanmar and Luxembourg.
