DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, Sept 17 – Rwanda and Djibouti are the first teams to exit the on-going TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) CECAFA qualifiers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
After losing their opening Group A match 3-0 to hosts Tanzania, the Rwanda team exited the tournament after managing a goalless draw in their second match against Ethiopia played at the Uhuru Stadium on Thursday.
André Cassa Mbungo, the Rwanda coach told Talksportsafrica after the match that it was unfortunate they failed to win or score a goal in the tournament. “We pick lessons from here and go back and improve the players,” added Mbungo.
Djibouti also exited the tournament after losing their secone match in the tournament. They suffered a 4-1 defeat to Uganda in the opening Group B match, and lost 3-0 to Sudan on Thursday.
Wail Galal Omer scored a brace, while Ibrahim Samani was also on the score sheet for Sudan.
Later Group C table leaders Burundi were set to face Kenya in the last match of the day.
The top team in each group and the best second placed team will automatically qualify for the semi-final stage. The finalists will qualify for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
