Nigeria, Egypt make good start in All Africa Senior Badminton Championship

DOUALA, Feb 10. – The All Africa Senior Badminton Championship started off on Monday with the team events in Douala, Cameroon.

Five teams Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Mauritius and Algeria all recorded 5-0 wins, while Uganda also saw off Reunion 4-1.

In the opening Group C match Mauritius led by singes players Lucas Douce and Chaira How Hong (Women) defeated Equatorial Guinea 5-0, while Egypt also saw-off hosts Cameroon 5-0 in a Group A match.

In Group B South Africa defeated Reunion 5-0, while Uganda also picked a 4-1 win against the same Reunion team. It’s only in the men’s doubles when the pair of Assing Aaron and Chan Fung Ting Xavier stopped Uganda’s Muzafaru Lubega and Augustus Owinyi 21-9, 21-17.

Nigeria led by top men’s player Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori brushed a side Zambia 5-0 in a Group C match, while Algeria also defeated Ghana 5-0 in a Group A match.

Action continues on Tuesday with the last matches to determine which teams make it to the knock-out stage.

The All Africa Senior Badminton Championships 2025 which runs February 10-16 and organized by the Badminton Confederation Africa (BCA) is also serving as the qualification tournament for the Sudirman Cup finals.
