The Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) will send their national team to fine tune in the Re-Union Open International Challenge 2022.
Annet Nakamya, President of the Association says that they have decided to send the team to Re-Union to train for a few days and also participate in the International Challenge.
“The trip to Re-Union will help our eight players and coaches fine-tune ahead of the Commonwealth Games to take place in Birmingham,” added Nakamya.
She explained that playing in an International Challenge a few days before the Commonwealth Games will come at the right time for the players and coaches to gauge several aspects.
William Kabindi, the national coach, told TalksportAfrica.com after a training session at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala that he is very happy with how the players are responding during training.
“Playing at the Re-Union Challenge will also help the technical team to determine certain aspects during games situations and correct ahead of the Commonwealth Games,” added Kabindi.
Uganda’s top men’s badminton player, Brain Kasirye also made it clear that playing in the Re-Union Challenge will be a good test ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
“I am sure we shall face several good players in Re-Union and this will help us prepare well ahead of the trip to Birmingham,” added Kasirye, ranked sixth in Africa and 182nd in the world.
Apart from Kasirye, the other members of Uganda’s badminton team that will play at the Commonwealth Games include; Israel Wanagalya, Friday Atama, Kenneth Mwambu, Husna Kobugabe, Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi and Sharifah Wanyana.
