Eight African players have secured continental spots in the ITTF World Cup Macao 2025 slated for April 14-20th.
Macao is an administrative region of the People’s Republic of China.
The eight players (four men and four women) qualified after making it to the semi-final stage at the on-going ITTF Africa Cup in Tunis, Tunisia.
Omar Assar from Egypt was the first to book a slot after overcoming Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa 4-2 in a challenging quarterfinal. Nigeria’s experienced player Quadri Aruna also inked his name on the list with a 4-0 victory against Cote d’Ivoire’s Oba Oba Kizito.
In the other matches Benin Republic’s Abdel-Kader Salifou stopped Mohamed El-Beiali from Egypt 4-1, and Cameroon’s Ylane Batix saw off Madagascar’s Antoine Razafinarivo 4-2.
The women’s category saw Egypt’s trio of Hana Goda, Mariam Alhodaby, nine-time African Cup champion Dina Meshref and Nigeria’s Fatimo Bello also booked tickets to Macao.
