Uganda set to host ITTF Eastern Africa Regional Senior Championship

Foreign teams have arrived in Uganda ahead of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Eastern Africa Regional Senior Championship 2024.

The Championship sanctioned by ITTF will run April 22-25th at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium in the capital Kampala.

Robert Jjagwe, President of the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) has told Talksportsafrica that they expect a very competitive event.

” We are very excited about hosting this Championship which brings together top male and female players in Eastern Africa. It is another opportunity for us to showcase our ability to host top competitions in Africa, ” added Jjagwe.

He explained that the Championship will involve the team category and the male and female singles with top players and teams qualifying for the ITTF Africa Senior Championship to take place in Ethiopia in October this year.

The winners and runners-up in the team event, and the top eight players in the male and female singles will automatically qualify for the Africa Senior Championship where they will join other players who will qualify from other Zones.

Nine-year old upcoming star Joseph Sebatindira has been selected by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to join the Rising Stars High Performance training camp in Sweden and fresh from playing in the African Games in Ghana is part of Uganda’s team.

The other players on Uganda’s team include; Jonathan Senyonga, Samuel Mbabazi Ankunda, Sharif Nsereko, Benjamin Ebenezer Achuma, Jemimah Nakawala, Parvin Judith Nangonzi, Shanitah Namaala, Irene Nekesa and Patra Nasirumbi.

The nations that will take part in the ITTF sanctioned Championship include; Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania, Comoros, Sudan, Somalia and hosts Uganda.
