Nine countries will take part when the Eastern Africa Regional Senior Table Tennis Championships takes place March 9-12th, 2023 in Djibouti.
It is a historic event for the hosts, Djibouti, as the “Horn of Africa” nation trends new grounds by staging the tournament, having only hosted the Indian Ocean Games in 2017.
The excitement of having the region’s best table tennis players battle it out is palpable in Djibouti’s air as teams from Comoros, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, and host Djibouti arrive in the country for the three-day tournament.
According to Secretary-General, of Djibouti Table Tennis Federation, Mohamed Segueh, hosting the tournament has shot up enthusiasm for table tennis in Djibouti.
“Hosting this tournament for the first time in our country will enable our federation to achieve two major objectives: To gauge our ability to organise a tournament of this magnitude as well as allow our table tennis players to face seasoned opponents on their own court and in front of their public,” said Segueh.
He further said that this is the first time that the Djibouti Table Tennis Federation is going to organise a major regional tournament which will bring together nations from the region. “Hosting this event will will allow us to know our capacities to be a good host. Certainly, we have the capacities but this time it will be a question of testing in real time and really our capacities,” Segueh.
He also made it clear that the Djibouti players are well prepared for the Championship with some fresh from a tour of France .
