Top players ranked by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) have entered the 2023 Uganda International Badminton Challenge.
The event categorized as an International Challenge with a cash prize of US$15,000 will take place February 22-26th, 2023 at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala.
Christo Popov, the world’s 41st men’s singles ranked player is among the top players who have registered to take part in the Challenge. The other male players who are ranked among the 100 men’s singles players include; Kai Schaefer (Germany), Danylo Bosniuk (Ukraine), Ade Resky Dwicahyo (Azerbaijan), Max Weisskirchen (Germany) and Kartikey Gulshan Kumar (India) among others.
The world event will have the men’s and women’s singles and doubles, and the mixed doubles.
Brian Kasirye, Uganda’s top men’s players who is currently training in the United Arab Emirates will be the main local player to watch.
Annet Nakamya, Chairperson of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) says having this tournament is good because it gives the local players a good platform to gauge themselves against the world players.
Last year in the same tournament Aranaud Merkle (France) and Talia Ng (Canada) won the men’s and women’s singles respectively.
