Burundian international Youssouf Ndayishimiye was in good form on Sunday night when he featured in Nice’s 3-1 victory against Marseille in the French Ligue 1
The 24-year old defender/midfielder who recently joined the French side from Turkey’s İstanbul Başakşehir featured in the first half before he was replaced later.
Sofiane Diop gave Nice the lead after 34 minutes at the Stade Velodrome, and Gatetan Laborde made it 2-0 after 44 minutes.
The home side Marseille pulled a goal back through Ruslan Malinovskyi, but Billal Brahimi made it 3-1 for Nice. The win over second placed Marseille sent Ndayishimiye’s team to 8th place with 34 points.
Paris Saint Germain lead the French Ligue 1 with 54 points from 22 matches played.
Ndayishimiye joined Nice following a successful spell in Turkish football where he made over 100 appearances for Yeni Malatyaspor and most recent club İstanbul Başakşehir.
He developed at Burundian club Aigle Noir in Makamba in the southern part of the country, making his debut for the Burundi senior national team at the age of eighteen in 2017. He moved from Aigle Noir to Yeni Malatyaspor in January 2020 for a €45,000 fee and gradually established himself as a rising prospect in Turkish football before taking a step up by moving to İstanbul Başakşehir for €2.15 million a year later.
Ndayishimiye has made seventeen appearances for Burundi, scoring one goal in a 3-1 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 qualifying win over Mauritania.
