KIGALI, Rwanda, Sept 2. – Amus College School, Uganda’s representatives are ready for kick-off of the CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA qualifiers.
The Zonal qualifier which has attracted eight schools takes place September 3-5th at the FERWAFA Technical Center ground and the Kigali Pele Stadium. Amus College School will represent Uganda in both the Boys and Girls categories.
The Boys team has been placed in B alongside Somalia, South Sudan and Burundi, while the Girls are placed with Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan in Group A.
Co-funded by the Motsepe Foundation, the tournament for Under 15 School going players during the U-15 tournament.
To qualify to represent Uganda, Amus College School beat St. Mary’s Kitende and St Noa Girls Zana in the boys and girls’ finals respectively.
Richard Malinga, the Amus College School Boys team coach has made it clear that his team is very ready for the tournament. “We shall take every match like a final,” says Malinga.
Besides qualifying to represent the Zone at the CAF African Schools Championship continental stage, the winners in each category will win US$100,00. The runners-up and third placed in each category will pocket US$75,000, and US$50,000 respectively.
The cash prizes are earmarked to improve school infrastructure, such as building classrooms, upgrading sports facilities, or installing clean water systems.
