DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – Hosts Tanzania are the winners of the regional CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2025.
The Twiga Stars defeated Kenya 1-0 in their last match of the tournament played on Saturday at the Azam Complex.
Saudi Arabia based forward Clara Luvanga netted the lone goal after the ball deflected off Kenya’s goalkeeper Lilian Onyango Awuor.
Kenya’s Violet Nanjala Wanyonyi had also come close to finding the net.
The win guaranteed Tanzania a 100% winning record in the tournament as they emerged champions. It also helped them to prepare well ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to take place in Morocco next month.
“We are happy that we worked hard and won all the matches. It was a good tournament which gave us chance to prepare before WAFCON,” said Tanzania’s captain Opa Clement Tukumbuke.
In an earlier match South Sudan shocked Burundi 3-1. Mary Bol, Sumaya MaliliTaban and Nyama Nyamam Makuac Deng scored for South Sudan, while Rukiya Bizimana netted the lone goal for Burundi.
