The Uganda Cranes team has stepped up preparations ahead of the kick-off of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers
Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic also invited Motherwell FC defender Bevis Mugabi ahead of their opening Group A match against Algeria.
Algeria will host Uganda Cranes on June 4th, 2022 in the city of Oran.
Mugabi who has been in good form for the Scottish side is among the professional players Sredojevic named in the provisional squad.
“We have to prepare well for each of our matches because the group is not that easy. We need to go and pick a good result away to Algeria before we host Niger,” says Sredojevic.
He made it clear that having another CECAFA team Tanzania in the group makes it even more tricky.
The coach has also invited Hudderfield Town FC player Bellagambi Giousue for the first time. The coach has also included Lviv’s attacking midfielder Farouk Miya who has not been active for some months because of the ongoing insecurity in Ukraine.
“We have a chance to try and return to the AFCON after Uganda Cranes last appeared there in the 2019 AFCON hosted in Egypt,” added the head coach.
