MELBOURNE, Australia, Jan. 17 – Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur is out of the 2024 Australian Tennis Open in the second round.
The world number 6 found the going tough on Wednesday, losing 16-year old Russian Mirra Andreeva.
Jabuer, a three-time Grand Slam finalist could not match debut making Andreeva losing 6-0, 6-2 in only 54 minutes at the Rod Laver Arena.
It was the second consecutive year that the 29-year-old Tunisian fell at the Australian Open in the second round as she was undone by 24 unforced errors compared to Andreeva’s 13.
In her first win over a top-10 player, Andreeva produced the biggest result of her fledgling career and continued her rise on the circuit, having reached the fourth round at Wimbledon last year as a qualifier.
Later at the post-match conference, the 16-year-old revealed that she felt considerably nervous ahead of her second-round clash.
In her third round, Andreeva will face either her countrywoman Kamilla Rakhimova or Diane Parry of France.
