Munyantwali Alphonse, President of the Federation noted that out of the many coaches who applied for the job of national team coach, Amrouche was outstanding.

Amrouche who has handled Burundi, Botswana, Kenya, Libya and Tanzania before takes over from Torsten Spittler Frank whose contract was not renewed late last year.

Eric Nshimiyimana was also announced as the first assistant coach, while Dr Carolin Braun is the second assistant coach.

He will start his work with a tough match against Nigeria on March 21st, 2025 in a FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier in Kigali.

Last month Algerian coach Amrouche won a key ruling that reduced an initial suspension and secured compensation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) adjusted a previous decision by CAF’s Appeals Committee, reducing Amrouche’s suspension from eight matches to four.

This ruling reduced the original disciplinary sanction imposed by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee in January 2024, which had banned Amrouche for eight games and fined him $10,000.

The suspension stemmed from remarks Amrouche made before Tanzania’s first group stage match against Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. At that time, he criticized the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and CAF.
