KAMPALA, Feb 18. The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has terminated the contract of the national women’s head coach Mohamed Sidi Karoune.

“After a thoughtful and respectful discussion with Coach Mohamed Sidi Karoune, we have mutually agreed to conclude his contract,” said a communication from SSFA dated February 15th.

The Association explained that the decision comes in light of recent personal challenges faced by Coach Karoune, including the loss of his mother.

“We recognize the dedication and passion Coach Karoune brought to the team, and we are grateful for his contributions during his tenure. Our thoughts are with him during this difficult time as he navigates through these personal challenges,” added SSFA.

The Association has gone on to appoint Simon James Yor as the interim coach of the national women’s team.

He will be in-charge when South Sudan hosts Algeria in the first leg first round of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifiers in Juba on February 18th, 2025.
