Uganda’s Jane Asinde glad to join Spain’s Ensino Lugo

KAMPALA, Feb 18. – The captain of Uganda women’s basketball national team, Jane Asinde has expressed her happiness after signing with Spain’s First Division side, Durán Maquinaria Ensino Lugo.

A week ago Asinde led the Ugandan team, Gazelles to win the AfroBasket Zone 5 qualifiers beating hosts Egypt in the final.

Speaking after signing for the Spanish team from China’s Henan Phonix, Asinde said that she is happy to start a new journey as a professional basketball player.

“I look forward to start this new journey in Spain. I know the League in Spain is very competitive, but I am prepared and ready to deliver for my new team,” added Asinde.

Nicholas Natuhereza, coach of Uganda Gazelles told talksportsafrica.com that he is excited about Asinde joining a team in Europe. “This will help her improve her game further and also open more doors for other Ugandan players,” added Natuhereza.

At the recent AfroBasket Zone 5 qualifiers, Asinde was voted the Most Valuable Player after averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Asinde’s new club in Spain based in Lugo, Galicia and founded in 1980, has been competing in Spain’s first division since 2018, having previously featured in the league between 1995 and 2007.
