The national Basketball team of South Sudan has qualified for the second round of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.
South Sudan secured the slot after stopping hosts Rwanda 73-63 in a Group B match of the qualifiers played in Kigali on Friday.
Bul Kuol picked 16 points for South Sudan, Nuni Omot added 13 and Kuany Ngor Kuany contributed 15 points. It was South Sudan’s fourth straight win in the qualifiers.
The South Sudan team which now has 8 points will return to action against Tunisia today, before facing Cameroon on Sunday.
In the Group A match played on Friday Cape Verde shocked the D’Tigers of Nigeria 79-70, while Uganda received a walkover Mali who reportedly refused to come to the Arena because of a bonus dispute. Action in Group A also continues today. Africa has five slots for next year’s World Cup in Indonesia, Japan and Philippines
