DAR EL SALAAM, Tanzania – Co-hosts Tanzania have kick started their Group B TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 with a 2-0 win against Burkina Faso.

The Taifa Stars saw off the West African team in a match attended by a big crowd at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday evening.

Abdul Hamisi Suleiman converted a penalty in the first half, while Mohamed Hussein Mohamed made it 2-0 in the second half.

At the stroke half time Suleiman converted a penalty after striker Clement Mzize had been fouled in the box.

Hard working midfielder Frank Tologo tried to push forward to find a goal for Burkina Faso, but failed to break the Taifa Stars defending wall.

The match was attended by several Tanzanian Ministers and the CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

A happy Tanzanian coach Hemed Suleiman Ali said that his players had given 100%. “I thank the players for the hard work and the fans for giving us all the support,” added the coach.

Tanzania now lead Group B that also has the Central African, Mauritania and Madagascar.
