OSAKA, Japan – Uganda’s Stella Chesang has started the new season in style by winning the Osaka Women’s Marathon 2026.
Chesang maintained he pce from the start and broke away in the closing stages to win with a time of 2:19:31.
The national record-holder waited until the final two kilometres to make her decisive move, leading three other women inside 2:20.
Chesang, the 2018 Commonwealth 10,000m champion became the first Ugandan woman to win a World Athletics Platinum Label marathon.
While Chesang came first, Ethiopia’s duo of Bedatu Hirpa and Workenesh Edesa finished second and third respectively with times of 2:19:54 and 2:19:56 respectively.
