VIENNA, AUSTRIA – Eritrea’s Nazeret Weldu has hit the Paris Olympics qualifying time after winning the women’s race at the 41st Vienna City Marathon on Sunday.
She completed the race in 2:24:08, qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris, the only athlete in this race to achieve this feat.
Kenya’s Faith Chepkoech finished second with a time of 2:26:22, while another Kenyan Rebecca Tanui came third with a time of 2:26:53. « I am very happy that besides winning the Marathon, I have also qualified for the Paris Olympics, » said a happy Weldu.
In the men’s category Ethiopia’s Chala Regasa came out top with a time of 2:06:35. The Kenyans Bernard Muia and Albert Kangogo took second and third places with times of 2:10:42 and 2:10:44, respectively.
The 41st Vienna City Marathon attracted 42,625 participants from 143 nations, with 10,024 runners competing in the full marathon, making it the third-largest in the event’s history.
