Uganda’s women’s Senior national team is set to make its debut in the World Lacrosse Championship 2022 to take place in Maryland, Towson, United States of America.
The team will face Germany and Jamaica in some of the group matches when the Championship takes place from June 29th to July 9th.
Dorothy Nakato, the team captain, told Sports News Africa on Sunday that they are determined and can not wait to make their debut in the Championship.
“We are preparing well and will be ready to go and give our best against some of the top teams in the world,” said Nakato.
Uganda will open their campaign with a match against Latvia on June 30th, before returning against Germany the next day.
The Ugandan team will face Wales on July 2nd, before playing the final group match against Jamaica the next day.
In case the Ugandan team performs well in the four matches, they can then proceed to the next round of the Championship. Uganda’s team currently training in Lugazi is headed by head coach Colin McSharar.
Besides Uganda, the other teams that will be making a debut in the Championship include; Argentina, Jamaica, Norway and Puerto Rico. The other teams taking part are; Canada, China, USA, Mexico, Italy, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Netherlands, Japan, Puerto Rico, Spain, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, Korea, Israel, Australia and England among others.
